The Testimonials

This are stories and memories of Eugene as told by family and friends.

"Everyone knows of Eugene's fondness for sports and athletes.  One would always see him on the sidelines at Graceland's athletic events, cheering, moving about restlessly, gesturing and talking enthusiastically to anyone who would listen.  One day, during football season, probably in 1955, as Jim (Gene's son) and I were strolling together across the campus, we saw Eugene running excitedly toward the football field.  A game was about to begin.  Jim called to him, "Hi, dad, where ya goin?"  Eugene called out, "To the game."  Jim's reply was one of the funniest things I've ever heard.  He simply said, "Oh. Hope you get to play!"  That classic line has remained vivid in my memory for all of these 45 plus years."
